The storage Verax uses, why it is used, and how to change your choice.

Current technologies

Verax uses an essential HTTP-only session cookie named verax_session for signed-in users. It lasts up to 30 days and supports authentication and security.

A second essential cookie, NEXT_LOCALE, records which of the English, French or German versions of the site to serve. It lasts up to 12 months, contains only a language code, and is required to deliver the page you requested.

Verax stores your consent choice in browser localStorage under verax_cookie_consent so the banner remembers it. Signed-in choices are also recorded server-side as consent evidence. Local storage remains until you clear it or the product asks you to renew consent, normally after 12 months.

Categories

  • Essential: authentication, security, consent memory, load balancing and service continuity. These cannot be switched off through the banner because the requested service cannot operate reliably without them.
  • Preferences: optional interface choices such as remembered display or language preferences beyond what is necessary for a request.
  • Analytics: optional first-party measurement of product usage (Rental Checks, reviews, claims). Events are stored on Verax infrastructure and are not sent until cookie consent is granted. Verax currently deploys no third-party analytics tags.

Your choice

Non-essential storage is off by default. Accept all, reject non-essential, or choose categories in the banner. Reopen Cookie settings from the footer to withdraw or change consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect prior lawful processing.

Browser controls can remove stored data, but blocking essential cookies may prevent login. Global browser signals are considered where legally required, but they do not replace the explicit choices shown here.

Responsibility and updates

The controller and privacy contacts are listed in the Privacy notice. Verax will update this policy before adding a new non-essential vendor, purpose or materially different retention period.
